DITL 6/11/18: Checking boxes and filling boxes

My time in Chapel Hill is really winding down! I was up by 6:45 AM (slept in a bit!) to take Indy on a little run before it got too hot. By 7:30 AM it was already pushing 77 degrees and the humidity is unbearable here! After our usual two miles I dropped her off at home before I ran 2 more. A solid 4 miles felt good today, and it’s all I can handle in this heat!

I had large Jazz apple before our run, and after it I made toast with sunflower seed butter, a sliced banana and a sprinkle of mixed nuts.

I showered and then continued listening to “When Life Gives You Lululemons” on my audible app while loading more moving boxes. Packing is such a workout! I'm just glad I can space it out. I can't imagine packing non-stop for a day. 

Around 10AM I had a bowl of Angie’s pop corn and a protein shake before getting started on more "to do" items. They included: scheduling "shut-offs" for utilites, e-mailing our current landlord about our intended move-out date, e-mailing with the House Hunters producer about our next scheduled block of filming, and looking into hotels in Asheville. I need to start reserving some "blocks" of hotel rooms for the big day! 

I took Indy out for a second (shorter) walk before driving to Durham. I met my friend (and Pure Barre manager) Kristen for lunch at one of my favorite places, Happy and Hale! I love their avocado toast, and needed a protein boost so I ordered their toast with extra tofu on top.

On my way home I stopped by the grocery store to stock up the fridge and picked up a cliff Builders bar for a snack. I worked on my laptop for a couple of hours before driving up to Weaver Street to pick up something for dinner from their hot bar. They always have amazing fresh and seasoned veggies!

Alex and was home shortly after dinner. We walked Indy around the neighborhood for her final loop of the day together.  I'm propped up in bed; relaxed and feeling productive! Less that 2 weeks left in Chapel Hill! I'm just doing my best to soak it in :) Until next time!

 

DITL 6/6/18: another trip to Asheville and my favorite falafel spot

I’m back in Chapel Hill after spending just another 24 hours in Asheville! It’s good to be home (and to know that I’m not driving another 4 hours tomorrow)!

For breakfast yesterday I just used what we had.. obviously we didn’t have time for grocery shopping over the weekend! I toasted a couple of frozen waffles, covered them with almond butter and sprinkled on trail mix.

I sipped on a protein shake (still on the Evolve kick for now) while walking Indy, and took a Larabar (peanut butter cookie) with me on my way to the gym. Workout included: Barbell bench press, Barbell Overhead Press, Flat Bench Dumbell Chest Fly, Incline Pushups, Skull Crushers, Alternating Dumbell Shoulder Press, Dumbell Lying Down Tricep kickbacks and Dumbell Lying Down reverse Flys. (Direct message me for sets, reps and/or resistance).

I drove home for lunch and put a couple of things together we had in the fridge. I microwaved a cup of Instant brown rice with quinoa and mixed it with a bag of steam fresh veggies, sautéed tempeh and topped it with salsa.

I took Indy on a second walk, packed my car with as many boxes it could holt and hit the road (again) for Asheville. I spent the night unpacking my suitcase and boxes, while listening to an audio book on my phone (using the Audible app). I just downloaded “When Life Gives You Lululemons”. It was just released, and written by Lauren Weisberger (author of Devil Wears Prada). It’s really entertaining so far and the perfect background to packing/ unpacking/ driving! 

I was up by 6AM the next morning. I am going to love the chilly Asheville mornings! It was 60 degrees until 9AM! For a quick breakfast I had a Cliff Builders Bar with Vanilla Almond Butter on top. It’s a sweet mixture for breakfast and not usually what I do, but I didn’t have much in the house yet grocery wise and it did the jobI

I drove to the Pure Barre Asheville studio to take Flavia’s (Studio Owner) Empower class. She is THE BEST. I love her classes, and it made me SO happy to see the studio, clients and teachers again! After class I met Flavia for lunch at one of my favorite places in Asheville Green Sage Café. I had their TLT sandwich (BBQ Tempeh, Lettuce, Tomato and avocado) with a side salad. I didn’t take a picture but I will next time! We talked about the teaching schedule for the summer, and when I can start teaching over there. I’m so SO lucky I can jump back into teaching so quickly. Once you stop for more than a month, it’s hard to get back into it! I plan to start teaching again by late July and will just take classes until then so I won’t get too rusty!

After lunch I hit the road for Chapel Hill. I stopped by the house to take Indy on a quick walk before meeting my friend Leighanne for dinner at Mediterranean Deli. One of the restaurants I’ll miss the most in Chapel Hill!

I ordered their falafel pita with eggplant and sautéed cauliflower. We sat outside and enjoyed Franklin Street! I was home, and exhausted by 8. I took Indy on one last walk before falling asleep on the sofa, until woke me up around 10PM and convinced me to go upstairs for bed. This week I'll focus on packing and checking off some "to do's" for wedding planning!

 

 

DITL 6/4/18: house hunters, wedding venues and wal-mart

What a weekend! Alex, Indy and I got home from Asheville a little before midnight last night. I’m exhausted but really excited at the same time. Filming for House Hunters is SO much fun! I can’t talk about the filming process very much.. but I can tell you some details about our weekend at least!

Saturday morning Alex and I woke up at 4 AM to finish packing, shower and hit the road for Asheville as early as possible. We met our producer in downtown Asheville by 11. The film crew put mics on us immediately and we hit the ground running. It took a little while to feel natural in front of the camera, but they had us doing fun activities around downtown so Alex and I enjoyed it. We took a break for lunch at Red Ginger (awesome Dim Sum restaurant), and filmed until 8:30 PM that night. Once we finished for the day we realized we had NOTHING in our house (not even a roll of paper towels) so we stopped by Wal-Mart on our way home. We picked up some soda waters, a broom, paper towels, paper plates and plastic cutlery along with 2 frozen pizzas. We weren’t home, eating dinner until 10:30 at night. I was so tired I could hardly eat, and I burned Alex’s pizza so badly the bottom was black and rock solid, and he had to just scrape off the toppings..(he must really love me).  We fell asleep on our air mattress (no furniture in our house) watching a television show on Alex’s phone (no wifi, no TV etc). It was a very memorable first night in our new home!

We were up and back at it by 9:30 AM on Sunday. We had a delicious lunch from a place called The Walk (in West Asheville). I had their tempeh avocado melt (sans cheese) and Alex had their burrito salad. Alex and I agree we are going to make that one of our usual hangouts once we move. We finished filming around 7PM, and on our way out of town we stopped by The Ridge (a wedding venue in Asheville). I have been seriously considering it for my wedding venue, and I wanted to see it in person, (see how it felt) before booking it (and putting down any deposit money). The Mountain View out there is stunning!

The owner greeted us with glasses of champagne, and she answered all of my questions. I’ll look at their proposal this week, and most likely will be booking the it by next week! Alex and I didn’t make it home until 11:45PM last night. We took Indy on a little walk, then collapsed into bed. 

Today has been a sleepy blur, but I got a few things accomplished. I made it to the gym for a workout, ran 2 miles with Indy, went grocery shopping, picked up 10 cardboard boxes for moving, assembled them and filled a couple of them, and ran a load of laundry. I'm wiped! Tomorrow I’ll be driving BACK to Asheville to bring my first load of boxes to the house.  I’m excited to take a class at the Pure Barre Asheville studio Wednesday morning and meet Flavia (the studio owner) for lunch. I can’t wait to start teaching over there!

 

DITL 6/1/18

So today is not my normal. I feel like once I post this entry people are going to tell me I’m crazy.. but it’s what I did today so I'm going to write it anyway! 

I woke up at 5:15AM, grabbed a Clif Builder’s Bar and harnessed Indy for our usual two mile loop. Earlier than usual: but I needed to drop Alex off at work before 6:15 AM. Yesterday Alex's department got tickets to the Durham Bulls game and we couldn't pass that up!

On my way to the game I picked him up from the hospital and we drove together but I forgot to take him back by his car at the end of the night. An easy fix: I dropped him of at work the next morning, on my way to meet my friend Caroline for an Orange Theory Fitness Class. I had bar number two of the morning during the drive (Go Macro Protein Purity)

I love taking OTF classes with Caroline because we are so compatible (athletically and just in general too). It’s really fun for us to push each other and try to keep up with each other! We managed to cover a 5k distance on the treadmills and the “floor work” was a great mix of upper body exercises (TRX high rows, pushups, V-Ups, Bicep Curls and upright rows). Caroline is  moving to Toronto the same time I’ll be moving to Asheville. I'm grateful for my  last few workouts with her!

After class I snacked on a banana and a packet of Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter spread while driving home. Once home, I took Indy on another (1 mile) walk.. It was only 9:15 in the morning and I was patting myself on the back for everything I was getting accomplished until Indy found the BIGGEST mud puddle and tried to lay down in it. I started pulling her towards me (away from the puddle) and she leaned down so the harness slipped over her head (SHE’S DEVIOUS). She then layed in the mud and wiggled, and rolled in it. I had no control over her because she basically escaped her harness. I just stood there for a second and had to admire her ability to get what she wants. Then I walked my muddy dog home and started to run the bath… I guess she needed a good bath before filming tomorrow anyway?

After I washed and brushed Indy, I had a large Pink Lady Apple before lacing on my tennis shoes one more time.. Yeah this is when you might think I’m a little crazy. I wanted to run just two more miles before showering. I know it’s excessive but I wanted to cover 7 miles today (total). I haven’t had a “long run” (anything longer than 6) since the Tar Heel 10 Miler race 6 weeks ago and it just feels good to remind yourself you can do it. I also doubt I’ll be able to exercise at all this weekend, and I have 8 hours in the car ahead of me. 

After my run, I made myself a big bowl of oatmeal with a sliced banana, 1 big scoop (for those who asked scoop is about ¼ cup) of granola, 1 big scoop of raw mixed nuts, and some hemp seeds. I showered, and worked on my laptop for about an hour. I printed, signed and faxed the contract for my wedding band (we have a band and a date!), and did some paperwork for my banker to open a joint bank account with Alex. I sent e-mails to the House Hunters producer and our realtor to touch base on logistics for tomorrow, and then made a bag of trail mix (almonds, chashews, pistascios, dried blueberries, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seed) before running to the car for more errands. 

I drove to the Southpoint Mall area to get my nails done and eyebrows waxed (for filming), went by Old Navy to pick up some solid colored tops for filming, shipped my Bridesmaid Proposal boxes (arriving Tuesday!) and picked up an iced coffee from Starbucks. Once I got back home I cleaned out my car  (for our early trip tomorrow), changed clothes, and tried to make my hair look nice. Alex got home around 6PM. We walked Indy and then drove to Franklin Street for Alex’s chief roast.

Basically: it’s a dinner where the interns get to “roast” the chiefs. All in good fun and they did a great job!

I’m glad I got to see everyone in OMFS before the formal “Hail and Farewell” banquest in 3 weeks (Alex’s graduation).

Dinner was barbecue, biscuits and mashed potatoes.. not my favorite but I had a biscuit and a glass of Cab Sauv. By 10PM  Alex and I were exhausted so we left for home. We took Indy on one last walk and I made myself an almond butter and banana sandwich before calling it a night. We have to wake up at 4AM tomorrow to leave for Asheville! I can’t dicuss too much of the filming process on my blog unfortunately (darn that NDA), but I’ll post again Monday about our weekend in general!

Last day at Pure Barre Chapel Hill

I can’t believe yesterday was my last day teaching at Pure Barre Chapel Hill!

I have been working at PB Chapel Hill for 5 and a half years. I started working at the front desk when I was a senior in college, and by graduation I went to training to become an instructor. About a year later I was promoted to “lead instructor”, responsible for training instructors and observing classes (etc). It’s been SO much more than a job. These women have been like a family to me! I met my two friends Talia and Caitlin in the Pure Barre studio, and they introduced me to Alex. I may not have ever met him without Pure Barre! 

I woke up yesterday morning at about the same time as usual (6:15 AM) and had some Ezekiel bread toast with cashew butter, extra nuts and a protein shake before taking Indy on a 2 mile run.

Two miles is the longest distance she can handle with this heat and it’s plenty to tire her out! I grabbed a banana before driving to the gym. My workout included: Seated Cable Close grip rows, Dumbell Incline Rows, Dumbell Front Squats, Straight Leg Barbell Deadlifts, TRX Suspension Low Rows, Barbell Bicep Curls, Barbell Reverse Lunges and Dumbell Incline Bicep Curls (those are HARD). I stopped by Whole Foods on my way home for some lunch (to go). I filled up a box at their hot bar. It included: spinach, mushrooms, tofu, black beans, garbanzo beans, raw mixed nuts, shelled hemp hearts, nutritional yeast, peas, and cauliflower tabbouleh.

I had a kombucha on the side and a Lara bar (pineapple upside down cake) for dessert. After lunch I took Indy on a second mini walk, (3/4 mile) showered and drove over to the Pure Barre studio. 

I got there over an hour early and spent some time in the studio on my own; making a playlist for my last classes. For Pure Barre classes you are supposed to use the pre-made playlists that PB Corporate sends you, but I thought we could make an exception for a night ;) I put all of my favorites together one on playlist while snacking on a Go Macro Bar (Flavor Sweet Rejuvenation)  I looked over my choreography one more time before people started arriving at 4PM.

Oh my gosh. SO MANY PEOPLE came out for my classes! My first two classes for overbooked with a waitlist and my last class (6:45PM) still had about 12 people. Everyone gave me hugs, cards and even a couple of gifts. Some people cried (and I cried a little too)! The studio owners brought champagne, cheese, fruits and crackers for everyone in the lobby, and it was an awesome party.

The best class was my last class.. all of the instructors came to take it, as well as Caitlin and Leighanne (two of my closest Pure Barre friends). I started to cry at the end but I kept it together mostly! This is the beginning of so many changes and I can’t help but get sentimental and a little emotional. I’m so SO happy I can always come back and visit!

After class all of my instructor and staff friends (11 of them!) and I walked across the street to Brixx for some well deserved pizza and drinks. I don’t drink that often, but I do enjoy a hard cider occasionally. I had an Angry Orchard Hard Cider and their Roasted Vegetable Pizza (with their dairy free cheese). I didn’t snap a picture this time sorry! I was home by 10pm. I read some of my sweet cards with Alex before taking Indy on one last little walk before bed. It hasn’t sunk in yet that I am finished teaching at Pure Barre Chapel Hill.. and I am so happy I can continue teaching at Pure Barre  Asheville!
